For the Love of Maps

I just love maps and globes. Vintage or new, I love the colors and shapes. They can be used for crafting, as wallpaper, or decoupaged onto furniture. Oh, the possibilities! Are you a “mapophile” or do you suffer from “globemania” as I do? Good. Come on over to Pinterest (click on the follow me on  Pinterest button in the upper right corner) and check out my new Maps & Globes page. It’ll be fun.

Cottage Drive By

I was running errands in a town about a half hour from mine. I made a little detour because I knew there were some cute cottages to drool over! It’s hard for a cottage to look good in the winter so I’m always keeping my eye out for new ideas. Cruise through the neighborhood with me, k?

I love the garden structures and grey railing on this one. Pretty yummy, right?IMG_5974  IMG_5975How about some color?  IMG_5976 IMG_5993IMG_5991IMG_5994Vine covered walls.

IMG_5980That’s a neat idea. Cute white fence to define the front porch area.IMG_5996

Where was this door when I was shopping for my new front door? The orange really pops against the grey.IMG_5998

It seems they’re doing some work on this house. The black shutters make it look elegant. We’ll have to drive by again when it’s done! IMG_6006 This divider, trellis, fence thingy is awesome. I might be tempted to grow peas up it!IMG_5987 Hmm. Cottage or castle? It’s definitely different.IMG_5988I really like the cottages that have evergreen bushes and trees around the entry. What a difference it makes in the winter.   IMG_5983IMG_5985IMG_5992      IMG_5990IMG_5981IMG_5995 IMG_6000 Wow. Check out this modern cottage. Don’t you wonder what it looks like on the inside?IMG_6005

Well, I’m off home. Our drive ended too soon. Until next time, keep glammin’ up that cottage.

Rachel Ashwell’s Bed & Breakfast

Of course you know that Rachel Ashwell, creator of Shabby Chic has a new B&B in Round Top Texas. You didn’t know?

Well, let’s have a bit of a tour to whet your appetite. There is a main public lodge and four cottages to choose from for my, er, your stay.

I love them all but I really might have to stay in The Cornflower.

Because I can just imagine soaking in this gorgeous tub. Yes I can.

To find out more, check out the website. I’m not compensated in any way by Rachel Ashwell but I’ve been one of her cheerleaders “marketers- at- large” for many years. From what I can tell, she has kept integrity even during difficulties and restructuring of her company. Unfortunately, that’s becoming more of a rarity.

Well, this is another one for the bucket list.

Hutch Top Turned into a Cabinet

The cabinet in my laundry room used to be the top of a hutch that I picked up at a flea market for around $30. The only before picture I could find was this one.
hutch top
It’s a simply made (probably homemade) shelf unit. It had the “legs” on it so that it could be on top of a lower cabinet. You get the idea. I needed closed storage in my laundry room in a bad way. After I priced upper cabinets, uh, not gonna happen, I started looking around the house. Nothing is safe around here. I had another hutch top in the garage that was too big for the space. So I asked Rob to use the doors off of it to make a closed cabinet. I think he did a great job.

He cut the bottom off and sanded it. Added a piece of 1x12 to the middle, so that the doors would fit, and then I painted them. I didn’t have the heart to paint the chippy white sides. I love ‘em. I might end up painting the front off- white. Are you always tweaking like I am? Are you my kinda crazy? ha
More detail.

It’s a tiny laundry room so the added storage really helps. Now I’m on the hunt for a cabinet for the powder room. Wish me luck!
